Journey back into time with a trip to the Daniel Boone Homestead. This Berks County property has preserved a bit of American homestead history at the place of Daniel Boone’s birth. Visitors can grab a ready map of the historic area and stroll the grounds on a self guided tour. Oley Valley residents will be able to envision the lifestyle pioneers lived in the 18th Century. Buildings here include the Boone House (the log cabin where Daniel Boone was born), the Boone House cellar and smokehouse, a blacksmith shop, homestead barn and threshing floor, sawmill, cemetery and more. Guided tours are also available of the Boone house. A host, attired accurately in time period garb, will lead guests through the cabin relaying facts and insights. History buffs who are Berks County property owners will be thrilled with periodic Flintlock marksmen demonstrations put on by the First Pennsylvania Regiment at the onsite rifle range.
Three picnic areas are available for use by the public at the Daniel Boone Homestead. Plan to spend the day, and after touring the historic site, explore the multitude of hiking and walking trails or lounge about the shore of Daniel Boone lake. The grounds are also equipped for campers with tent sites and the Wayside Lodge which holds two bunkhouses, bathroom facilities and a kitchen area. A listing of hours may be found on the Daniel Boone Homestead website.
